There are a lot of different skin elements that can occur on a toddler. Since a child has sensitive skin to begin with, you may find that your child has something to deal with. The common issues are not something extreme, and not something that will require a doctor’s visit, as you can clear up irritations with over the counter solutions. However, there are a few things that you should know about in regard to deeper issues. For instance, there is a rare instance that the penis could have an irritant, and could show to have pearly penile papules. This is extremely rare, mind you, but it could happen. If this happens, you’ll need to stop yourself from panicking, it’s not something that is going to hurt, and will not cause much damage overall. It’s something that you should know about, especially when having a boy.
Defining What PPP Is Overall
The first thing that you should know about pearly penile papules is that they aren’t going to hurt, they won’t bleed, and will not cause much damage to the penile tissue. They are common for children that are at puberty and older, but in rare cases they can end up on the skin of a toddler. This will only manifest as small raised bumps on the corona and on the shaft. Since a toddler is not going to be sexually active or anything like that, you can immediately rule out that issue. Either way, STD and STI is not a source of the problem with PPP at all.
If your child has PPP, it will come through with small raised bumps, and they will be extremely small. You’ll need to identify them as such, and that’s it. You can easily help remove these with topical solutions, such as the use of antibiotic lotions. A small dab will do here, and within a short span, things will clear up overall.
Should You See A Doctor?
There are some parents that will panic about seeing any changes to their child. If you see this on your toddler, you may think something is seriously wrong, and it’s not that bad. You shouldn’t panic and shouldn’t assume that things are going to get bad, because they won’t. You shouldn’t see a doctor immediately, unless you are not sure at what you’re looking at. Chances are, if the issue is in fact pearly penile papules, you’ll find that it’s going to be easy to work with. A doctor will calm you down and can give you a prescription for a topical solution, that you can easily work with.
It’s important that parents aren’t quick to try and remove things themselves. It’s also important not to panic. The issue of pearly penile papules is not something that is going to spread, it will not hurt, and it will not damage the penis at all. Again, this is rare for a toddler to have, but it could happen. In 99% of cases, however, it only effects men of a certain age, and that’s it.
